PREVALÊNCIA DE DIABETES EM IDOSOS RESIDENTES EM INSTITUIÇÕES DE LONGA PERMANÊNCIA LOCALIZADAS EM ARAGUARI-MG
O diabetes é comum na população idosa. Aos 75 anos, aproximadamente, 20% da população já sofre da do ença, de acordo com a literatura específica da área. O diabetes está associado a uma morbidade substancial na terceira idade. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a prevalência de diabetes em duas Instituições de Longa Permanência para idosos (ILPI), localizadas na cidade de Araguari-MG. O estudo foi realizado com base na pesquisa dos arquivos sobre cada paciente nas ILPls, localizadas na cidade de Araguari - MG. Os dados foram registrados e, posteriormente, comparados com a literatura existente sobre o assunto. A prevalência encontrada foi de 18%, sem correlação com o gênero dos pacientes. Os resultados estão em conformidade com a literatura existente sobre o assunto, e demonstram a incidência da doença no processo de envelheci mento da população de Araguari-MG.

Abstract:
Diabetes is common in the elderly population. According to the literature, by the age of 75, this illness afflicts 20% of the population. Diabetes is associated with substantial morbidity on elderly. This study's goal was to determine the prevalence of diabetes in two long-term care institutions in the city of Araguari, state of Minas Gerais. The study consisted in the collected and later compareci to literature about the subject. The prevalen ce of diabetes was of 18%, without correlation with the patient's gender. The results are in conformity with the existent literature about the subject, and show the prevalence of this disease on Araguari's population aging process.
