Abstract: The brown-throated sloth (Bradypus variegatus) is a species of Neotropical mammal that exhibits several anatomical peculiarities distinguishing it from other animals, both wild and domestic. These morphological singularities highlight the importance of osteotechnique as a tool that enhances the in-depth study of skeletal system anatomy for use in academic settings and medical practice. In this work, the skeleton of an adult male B. variegatus, obtained from the Brown-Throated Sloth Institute (IPGM) after natural death, was assembled. The procedure began with careful manual defleshing, followed by boiling in a solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) to facilitate the removal of soft tissues. The bones were then separated by anatomical regions into surgical caps and subjected to maceration in water. Once macerated, they were washed with water, soap, and a brush, then whitened with 30% hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). The bones were then air-dried. The rib cage, containing cartilage that was intended to be preserved, underwent delicate manual defleshing, followed by whitening in analytical grade (P.A.) hydrogen peroxide solution and a concentrated 50% solution, as well as rinsing under running water and air drying, aiming to preserve the articulation of the ribs with the sternum. To complete the whitening process, the piece was brushed entirely with analytical grade hydrogen peroxide P.A. The final assembly was carried out using wire, hot glue, and instant glue, with anatomical atlases and scientific articles used as references. The articulated skeleton was mounted on a restored wooden base and incorporated into the collection of the Museum of Comparative Anatomy at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (MAC-UFRPE).
