Abstract: This work aimed to understand the music-educational practices of participants from the musical groups of the therapeutic center for drug addiction Fazenda Esperança, in Bagé / RS. The specific objectives were: 1) to reveal the reasons for the creation of musical groups at Fazenda Esperança; 2) to know how residents choose the musical groups in which they participate; 3) to investigate the forms of musical teaching and learning that occur in groups; 4) to analyze the impacts of involvement with musical practices on the recovery path of residents. The research, with qualitative approach and theoretical perspective since the Sociology of Musical Education (SOUZA 2000; 2004), used as data collection instrument the semi- structured interview with six participants of Fazenda Esperança therapeutic center. Results have shown that some music group participants, bringing previous knowledge of a particular musical instrument, teach other residents and each member is also encouraged to explore other musical instruments available at the treatment center. The musical practices are fostered in that context as a motivation for the recovery from drug addiction. Making music, permeated by religious issues - as Fazenda Esperança is an evangelical oriented institution - provides a new way for residents to introduce themselves to the world. Through music, they get support to stay in treatment against drug addiction and to seek resocialization. I also highlight the important role of music for these subjects with regard to the affections and new bonds of friendship that are constituted through music.
