Abstract: This study presented a historical overview of the implementation of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), highlighting their inclusion through the National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC), in 2006. Additionally, it addressed the association of PICS with Brazilian Public Health Policies, emphasizing the importance of integrating these practices into health care and strengthening comprehensive and humanized care. Furthermore, the challenges faced by PICS were discussed, such as the resistance of some health professionals, lack of investment, and the need for professional training. However, promising future perspectives were pointed out, such as expanding access to PICS, including traditional and popular practices in patient care, and integrating PICS with conventional medicine. In a constantly changing world, PICS represent a promising path to strengthen humanized and sustainable care. The integration of these practices into health systems expands therapeutic options and also provides more comprehensive and patient-centered care, contributing to health promotion and well-being, and the consolidation of a more humanized health system.
