Abstract: This literature review explores the relationship between flavonoids, phenolic compounds widely distributed in the plant kingdom, and sleep disorders such as insomnia and anxiety. Flavonoids stand out for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective properties, acting mainly through the modulation of GABA-A receptors and the attenuation of oxidative stress—factors closely associated with the regulation of sleep quality. Based on the analysis of six studies published between 2014 and 2024, it was observed that substances such as rutin, apigenin, quercetin, and silymarin showed sedative and antidepressant effects in animal models. Moreover, diets rich in flavonoids were correlated with better sleep quality in population studies, demonstrating a positive impact on sleep latency and duration, as well as on the reduction of symptoms related to stress and depression. Although the results are promising, the literature still lacks robust clinical trials in humans that define safe and effective parameters of use. It is concluded that flavonoids have relevant therapeutic potential as natural alternatives in the management of sleep disorders, and further research is needed to consolidate their clinical applicability and expand access to safer and more accessible therapeutic options for the population.
