Abstract: The complementary therapies use has grown a lot in different countries. This scenario is no different in Brazil, since the Unified Health System (SUS) has adopted some practices that encourage and regulate the adoption of these techniques in the care units of states, municipalities and the Federal District. Aromatherapy is an ancient practice that makes use of essential oils through topical, inhalation or olfactory application with the aim of preventing, curing and reducing symptoms. The disease caused by the SARS-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) became known as Covid-19. Its rapid worldwide spread led the World Health Organization to declare a pandemic in 2020. Transmission occurs in a similar way to the flu virus, through the mucous membranes of the air, by close person-to-person contact. In some cases, the respiratory system can be severely compromised, which can lead to death. In this context, this work aims to identify the functions of aromatherapy through the search for essential oils in health care by drawing up an overview of how it is configured, in national and international literature, with regard to the use of this therapy as a tool in the prevention and treatment of covid-19.
