POR UMA NOVA GEOGRAFIA REGIONAL: ENTÃO VAMOS COMEÇAR PELO SERTÃO!

O presente texto busca inicialmente discutir o Sertão imageticamente presente no espaço virtual, verificar sua significação histórica e hodierna, suas descontinuidades e continuidades, buscou-se nas fontes mais populares, como a internet, principal fonte da pesquisa escolar entre os estudantes nas primeiras décadas do século XXI e os dicionários (não mais tão usual, contudo, fundamentais na conceituação). De que forma o Sertão é divulgado e apreendido por quem vai buscar informações sobre o Sertão? Após descortinar a superficialidade e anacronia dessas fontes sobre a semântica do termo Sertão e de como esta região é apresentada pelos textos e imagens em sites de busca. Em seguida buscou-se apresentar as transformações do Sertão tomando inicialmente como referência a microrregião do Pajeú, enquanto espaço geográfico já predominantemente urbano (mas também com um rural que aos poucos tem se distanciado da imagem do velho Sertão), tornando territórios gradativamente luminosos, referenciando conceituação de Milton Santos, reflexo do avanço técnico-científico-informacional em setores diversos da economia, através de dados do IBGE (2000 e 2010). Verifica-se avanços, contudo, velhas mazelas ainda persistem, no entanto, o presente trabalho objetivou demonstrar um outro Sertão pouco evidenciado, um novo Sertão. O principal objetivo deste texto é desfazer gradativamente o efeito medusa que o Sertão foi submetido a séculos. Atraso, embora exista não se pode apenas assim caracterizá-lo. O presente texto é primeiro um alerta e ao mesmo tempo um convite a Geografia e aos geógrafos para “despetrificar” o Sertão, por meio da evidência, da demonstração empírica e de dados oficiais, contudo, não tem-se a intenção de fazê-lo apenas por meios quantitativistas ancorada no positivismo. Sertão, um espaço que tem experimentado nas últimas décadas mudanças, ora mais intensas, ora de menor proporção, variando na imensidão da espacialidade sertaneja. Acredita-se que o geógrafo deve primeiro através da sua espacialidade, cidade, meio rural, vila, povoado... do seu lugar, tomar como objeto de contextualização, numa perspectiva material ou imaterial, com objetivo de evidenciar aos educandos as transformações socioespaciais.  O desmonte desse Sertão, do atraso apenas, é urgente. O geógrafo deve assumir o papel de “perseu”, cortar as cabeças das medusas, uma de suas missões.

  • Abstract: This text initially seeks to discuss the Sertão imagetically present in the virtual space, to verify its historical and current significance, its discontinuities and continuities, and to search for the most popular sources, such as the Internet, the main source of school research among students in the first decades of the 21st century, and dictionaries (no longer so common, but fundamental in the conceptualization). How is the Sertão disseminated and understood by those who seek information about the Sertão? After revealing the superficiality and anachronism of these sources regarding the semantics of the term Sertão and how this region is presented by texts and images on search engines. Next, we sought to present the transformations of the Sertão, initially taking as reference the Pajeú microregion, as a geographical space that is already predominantly urban (but also with a rural aspect that has gradually distanced itself from the image of the old Sertão), gradually turning territories into brighter territories, referencing Milton Santos's concept, a reflection of the technical-scientific-informational advances in various sectors of the economy, through data from the IBGE (2000 and 2010). Advances have been made, however, old problems still persist. Nevertheless, this work aimed to demonstrate another Sertão that is little evidenced, a new Sertão. The main objective of this text is to gradually undo the Medusa effect that the Sertão has been subjected to for centuries. Delay, although it exists, cannot be characterized as such. This text is first and foremost a warning and at the same time an invitation to Geography and geographers to “de-petrify” the Sertão, through evidence, empirical demonstration and official data. However, the intention is not to do so only through quantitative means anchored in positivism. The Sertão, a space that has experienced changes in recent decades, sometimes more intense, sometimes lesser, varying in the immensity of the spatiality of the Sertão. It is believed that the geographer must first, through its spatiality, city, rural environment, village, town... of its place, take as an object of contextualization, from a material or immaterial perspective, with the objective of showing students the socio-spatial transformations. The dismantling of this Sertão, of the backwardness alone, is urgent. The geographer must assume the role of “Perseus”, cutting off the heads of the jellyfish, one of his missions.
