Abstract: The study addresses the historical evolution of immunization in Brazil since 1804, highlighting the influence of social and political transformations on the implementation of the National Immunization Policy (PNI). It presents the importance of the nursing team in promoting public health, highlighting the challenges faced by these professionals. It highlights the need to guarantee the safety of vaccines and promote ongoing education for health professionals involved in immunization, aiming to improve the effectiveness and quality of the services provided. The objective is to analyze the historical trajectory and the social, political and economic transformations that influenced the implementation of the PNI in Brazil from its origins to the present day. Furthermore, it aims to understand the role played by the nursing team in promoting public health through the administration of vaccines and discuss the importance of good immunization practices in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of immunization programs, as well as the need for ongoing education and training of health professionals involved in the area of immunization through the analysis of scientific production available in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Virtual Health Library of the Ministry of Health (VHL), Google Scholar, books, other media informative and complemented with a manual search in the reference lists of selected works. Immunization policies in Brazil highlight significant advances in protecting collective health. The implementation of good practices in vaccination is crucial to guarantee the effectiveness and safety of the process, as well as the ongoing education of health professionals to promote the quality of services and a culture of safety in the area of immunization.
