Abstract: In this work we discuss conservation and access to medicinal plants and herbs, as a way of valuing and safeguarding ancestral knowledge of healing and care that are essential for resistance and construction of quilombola identity. This text was based on the analysis of the results of empirical research developed by the Group of Studies and Research on Work and Education (GEPTE) through participatory research, with conversation circles, collective debates, observation and training workshops at the Quilombo de Mata Cavalo in Nossa Senhora do Livramento-MT. One of the objectives of the project was the construction of a nursery, as a guarantee of conservation and access to the medicinal plants used in the preparation of remedys, in addition to the maintenance and safekeeping of plants that are essential for the trade of root handler and bottle handler. The medicinal plant nursery at school in the quilombola community allows students to have access to a repertoire of species used for the production of remedys. The ancestral knowledge of healing and care must be shared with the new generations, so that young people realize the importance of safeguarding the knowledge that is essential to this way of life and for the protection of the biome.
