Abstract: Introduction: Family planning encompasses a set of actions aimed at strengthening sexual and reproductive rights, grounded in clinical, preventive, and educational practices, as well as the provision of information, means, methods, and techniques for fertility regulation. Although significant progress has been observed, the development of new contraceptive technologies is predominantly focused on the female audience. The exclusion of men from family planning issues is rooted in the biomedical health model and patriarchy, with historical origins linked to a mechanistic and reductionist view of the human body and nature. Therefore, this study aims to identify, through a gender lens, the patriarchal influence on the development of male contraceptives, considering the historical framework regarding the evolution of birth control methods. Methodology: This study consisted of a descriptive bibliographic review that analyzed publications in scientific journals available in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and National Library of Medicine (PubMed) databases. Inclusion criteria comprised publications addressing the study's theme, available in full text, including scientific articles or theses, in Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish, with no restriction on the publication period given the descriptive nature of the review. Exclusion criteria included studies off-topic or duplicate articles. Results and Discussion: The database search yielded 214 publications, which were analyzed and subjected to inclusion and exclusion criteria; consequently, 13 articles were selected for study and presented in three thematic categories: (1) Male contraception; (2) Body and belonging; and (3) Study and education on contraception. Final Considerations: Despite technological and scientific advancements in the field of contraception, research into and the adoption of male contraceptive methods remain limited, reinforcing a gender bias that delegates the responsibility for family planning to women. Cultural factors, stigmas, and the reluctance of corporate and industrial services contribute to male exclusion from family planning, perpetuating the disproportionate responsibility of women in pregnancy prevention. Only through the implementation of public policies that include men as equally responsible in family planning, and the creation of an environment of reproductive equity, will it be possible to achieve true shared responsibility and freedom in fertility management, aimed at deconstructing gender stereotypes.
