PHASING LOOPS: ANIMAÇÕES INFINITAS
Este artigo discute o desenvolvimento do projeto artístico Phasing Loops, que explora uma técnica análoga à técnica de composição musical phasing (relação de sincronia entre dois ou mais eventos e o ajuste dessa sincronia) para animação de imagens. Pela sobreposição de loops de animação com diferentes durações é possível gerar imagens complexas criadas por elementos básicos mais simples. Com a progressão da animação, esses elementos básicos se combinam em diferentes agrupamentos e configurações. No entanto, esses elementos básicos nunca mudam. A combinação desses loops pode gerar diferentes imagens por longos períodos antes do ciclo se reiniciar. A duração do ciclo de algumas das animações chega a ordens de magnitude superior a 1019 frames, que, na cadência de 24 frames por segundo, é equivalente a idade estimada do universo (14 bilhões de anos). O aspecto generativo do projeto referencia os compositores minimalistas Steve Reich e Terry Riley e o compositor e artista visual Brian Eno.

Abstract:
This article discusses the development of the artistic project Phasing Loops, which explores a technique analogous to the technique of musical composition called phasing (synchrony relationship between two or more events and the adjustment of that synchrony) for image animation. By overlapping animation loops with different durations, it is possible to generate complex images created by simpler basic elements. As the animation progresses, these basic elements combine in different groupings and configurations. However, these basic elements never change. The combination of these loops can generate different images for long periods before the cycle starts again. The cycle duration of some of the animations reaches orders of magnitude greater than 1019 frames, which, at a rate of 24 frames per second, is equivalent to the estimated age of the universe (14 billion years). The generative aspect of the project references the minimalist composers Steve Reich and Terry Riley and the composer and visual artist Brian Eno.
