• Abstract: The teaching of science is of paramount importance so that people can understand the phenomena of nature, society, technology, and can contribute positively to the development of society. Teaching science in elementary school is pleasurable, because it is at this stage of life that the child and the adolescent constantly ask questions and that the teacher needs to be prepared to heal these doubts. At that moment, the teacher needs to instill more and more curiosity of the students, helping them to observe, formulate hypotheses, experiment, interpret results obtained and, finally, reach a conclusion. At the Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho school, in the municipality of Granito Pernambuco, the object of this study. In this institution a qualitative and exploratory field research was carried out, where it was tried to evaluate how the science teachers are ministering this discipline and if they are instigating more and more the curiosity of its students, due to the science teaching being of great relevance for society, and the teacher in this area has a notorious contribution to forming critical citizens capable of contributing to society. It was found that teachers need to make students more curious, encourage them to produce their own knowledge and refer them to high school as autonomous people of their own ideas. Science education at the school studied, as well as in many others in Brazil, is not yet as it should, but the school is working to improve and achieve the desired scientific education.
