Abstract: The phenomenon of burnout, or professional exhaustion, has become a growing concern in contemporary society, particularly within various professions. This study addresses the issue, examining the perspective of Bernardino Ramazzini, regarded as the father of Occupational Medicine, regarding professional burnout in the present day. Ramazzini, in the 17th century, already observed the influence of the work environment on the health of workers. Currently, burnout is understood as a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion, often linked to high levels of occupational stress. The research explores how contemporary working conditions can exacerbate this scenario, considering increasing demands, technology, and pressure for productivity. The analysis underscores the importance of preventive approaches and organizational policies that foster a healthy work environment. By revisiting Ramazzini's ideas in light of contemporary challenges, the study proposes reflections on how his pioneering vision can inspire effective strategies for addressing burnout.
