Abstract: The nasal region has a complex structure and functioning, with the main function of filtering, heating and humidifying the air with the potential for administering drugs locally or systemically. In addition, these formulations are easy to administer non-invasively, with a rapid onset of action and a reduction in adverse effects due to the possibility of delivering drugs in a targeted manner, especially in the case of drug delivery through the nose-to-brain route. This route creates the possibility of direct access to the central nervous system, thus circumventing the blood-brain barrier, using technologies such as lipid nanocarriers, micro and nanoemulsions, nanoparticles and others. The nasal route has the potential to treat a range of diseases. Some studies have shown promising results from formulations intended for intranasal use for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease, migraine, epilepsy and Alzheimer's Disease. This chapter aims to provide general information about the nasal route of drug administration and an overview of some recent studies carried out during the last ten years on nasal application of drug formulations aimed at permeation, especially nose-to-brain ones.
