PERIODONTITIS ASOCIADA A LA INSUFICIENCIA RENAL CRÓNICA EN PACIENTES DE UN CENTRO DE HEMODIÁLISIS

• Abstract: Objective: Determine the association between Periodontitis and chronic renal failure in patients at the Virgen de la Candelaria Hemodialysis Center, Arequipa 2022. Material and methods: Non-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional, observational design; quantitative method. The sample was 55 patients who met the selection criteria. The technique was observation. We worked with the clinical history of each patient and the periodontogram. Results: Regarding the severity of periodontitis and the severity of CKD, 10.91% of patients with CKD in stage IV; 9.09% presented mild periodontitis and 1.82% presented moderate periodontitis. Of 89.09% of patients with CKD in stage V; 7.27% presented mild periodontitis, 36.36% moderate periodontitis and 45.45% severe periodontitis; and a p value=0.0000. Regarding the severity of periodontitis and the duration of hemodialysis treatment, IIRC, 12.73% of patients had hemodialysis treatment for less than 1 year; 10.91% presented mild periodontitis and 1.82% presented moderate periodontitis. Of 36.36% of patients with hemodialysis treatment from 1 to 4 years; 5.45% presented mild periodontitis, 27.27% moderate periodontitis and 3.64% severe periodontitis. Of 27.27% of patients with hemodialysis treatment from 5 to 8 years; 9.09% presented moderate periodontitis and 18.18% presented severe periodontitis. Of the 23.64% of patients with hemodialysis treatment for more than 9 years, all presented severe periodontitis and a p value = 0.0000 was obtained. Conclusion: It is determined that periodontitis is significantly associated with chronic renal failure in patients at the Hemodialysis Center.
