PERFIL SOCIOECONÔMICO E ACADÊMICO DOS ESTUDANTES DO CURSO DE ODONTOLOGIA: VISANDO CONTRIBUIR COM AS POLÍTICAS DE ASSISTÊNCIA ESTUDANTIL
A expansão do número de vagas e a democratização do acesso nas Instituições Federais de Ensino Superior (IFES) demandaram ações para viabilizar a permanência dos estudantes. Surge então a necessidade de se pesquisar seus impactos no âmbito de cursos tradicionais e de alta demanda como o de Odontologia por este ser oneroso e em horário integral. A pesquisa objetiva caracterizar o perfil socioeconômico e acadêmico dos estudantes de Odontologia da UFMG. É um estudo transversal descritivo envolvendo todos os alunos de graduação matriculados no primeiro semestre de 2018 (N=656). Utilizou-se um questionário estruturado em quatro dimensões com 29 questões fechadas, testado previamente e aplicado em sala de aula. O banco de dados foi elaborado no software Statistical Package of Social Sciences, vs 19, cuja validação ocorreu após revisão da digitação seguida da análise. Pesquisa aprovada pelo COEP/UFMG (parecer n. 2.144.090). A participação foi de 72,0% (472). Os resultados reafirmam a feminização dos estudantes de odontologia e uma baixa média de idade, sendo esta indicativa de sucesso na trajetória escolar. Houve um aumento do número de negros. Percebe-se um decréscimo na renda, comparada a pesquisas anteriores, merecendo destaque a presença de beneficiários do Programa Bolsa Família. Contudo, há muito que se avançar nesse contexto visto que, mesmo com a ampliação do ingresso de estudantes das classes desfavorecidas socioeconomicamente nas IFES, estes necessitam de uma assistência estudantil diferenciada para conseguir subsidiar a sua manutenção e permanência na universidade.

Abstract:
The expansion of the number of students in universities and democratization of access in the Federal Institutions of Higher Education (FIHE) demanded maintenance actions to guarantee the stay of the socioeconomically disadvantaged students at university. There’s necessity to investigate its impacts in traditional and high demand courses, such as Dentistry, because it’s full time and an expensive course. The objective is to characterize the socioeconomic and academic profile of the dental students at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). It’s a cross-sectional descriptive study involving all undergraduate students enrolled in the first semester of 2018. A questionnaire was used, structured in four dimensions with 29 questions, previously tested in a pilot study and applied in Dentistry School classrooms. The database was elaborated in Statistical Package of Social Sciences software, vs 19, whose validation occurred after review of the typing. Study approved by Ethics Committee in Research of UFMG (opinion n. 2,144,090). The response rate was 72.0%. The results show the reaffirmation of dentistry students feminization and a low average age, being this indicative of success in the high school. There has been an increase in the number of black students, a decrease in financial income, highlighting the presence of beneficiaries of Bolsa Família, a social program aimed at needy families. However, even with the expansion of the enrollment of socioeconomically underprivileged classes students in the FIHE, they need a differentiated student assistance in order to subsidize their maintenance and guarantee their stay in university
