Abstract: Adolescence is a period characterized by biological transformations, with physical and emotional changes. It is also at this stage that a significant variation in body composition is observed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the socioeconomic characteristics, anthropometric profile and lifestyle habits of adolescents enrolled in a public school in Brazil. A cross-sectional and exploratory study was carried out with the application of a questionnaire and data collection from September 2023 to November 2023. Within the sample studied (114), the majority were female (55%), with an average of 13 years, with the majority declaring themselves mixed race (60%) and the majority having between 4 and 5 people in the same household (74%) and 95% of them reporting receiving government assistance. Regarding health perception, on average, 71% of students consider themselves a healthy person and 60% of them report being satisfied with their body, although of those who are dissatisfied (14%), the majority are girls (73%). On average, students have a body mass index of 19 and body adiposity of 20%. However, of those who were overweight or obese, the vast majority were girls. Regarding eating habits, only 56% of students eat breakfast frequently and 37% of students report not having eaten healthy foods such as vegetables in the last week and 15% report having eaten sweets every day in the last week. Regarding physical activity, 71% perform physical activity, on average twice a week. Our results indicate that girls have greater body dissatisfaction, overweight/obesity rates and consume more unhealthy foods than boys. The results can guide awareness strategies about healthy eating and lifestyle habits, with an emphasis on the specific needs of girls. Future studies can explore the regional characteristics of adolescents in Brazil.
