Abstract: Toxoplasmosis is a zoonosis caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, considered one of the most severe infections during pregnancy due to the risks of miscarriage and fetal complications. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological and clinical profile of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational toxoplasmosis in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, between 2019 and 2023. Data were obtained from DATASUS (Tabnet), and the variables analyzed included age group (years), education level, self-reported race/ethnicity, disease outcome, and the number of notifications by health macro-region. During the study period, 3,478 cases of gestational toxoplasmosis were reported, with the highest percentage of cases (24.9%) recorded in 2022. Most of the pregnant women (78.6%) were aged between 21 and 39 years, had completed primary or secondary education (52.8%), and self-identified as white (75.3%). A higher prevalence of recovery was observed among women aged 20 to 39 years (78.9%). Among the state’s health macro-regions, the Metropolitan region accounted for the highest percentage of notifications (42.2%). It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health to establish policies and guidelines to ensure effective prenatal care, including early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and proper training of healthcare professionals involved in the care of pregnant women throughout their healthcare journey.
