Abstract: Cancer is characterized by abnormal and uncontrolled growth, and multiplication of cells and chemotherapy is the main therapeutic scheme adopted. However, immunotherapy is in evidence in research as a treatment alternative, because it stimulates the body to identify cancer cells and attack them, changing the immune response. Nivolumab is an immunotherapeutic from the class of immune checkpoint inhibitors, which binds to programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1) blocking its interaction with its ligands. It presents potential for precise, effective treatment with fewer adverse reactions, promoting better quality of life for patients. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients who used nivolumab in a public hospital. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted through electronic medical record data collection from March 2018 to October 2020. Were included 39 patients, with a median age of 66 years (interquartile range from 20 to 78 years), mostly male (25/39; 64.1%), non-residents of Belo Horizonte (28/39; 71.8%), diagnosed with melanoma (20/39; 51.3%), who had their treatment suspended because of disease progression (12/19; 63.2%) and who had grade 1 adverse reactions (32/53; 60.4%) during treatment. We concluded that patient profiling can be used by the multidisciplinary team to guide therapy, and further studies are needed to evaluate the effect of pharmaceutical interventions on clinical outcomes with the use of nivolumab.
