Abstract: In Brazil, nursing is carried out by three categories: nurses, technicians and nursing assistants, and each of these categories has its own training process. However, literature is scarce regarding the specificities of the work of secondary nursing students, which includes technicians1. Professional education in Nursing was initially made official in the 40s, undergoing changes in legal indications in the field of education in the 60s, 70s and 90s, and today is basically guided by LDB9394/96, by Decree 5154 /04, by Opinion CEB 16/99 and by the Curricular Guidelines for Professional Education in Brazil - Resolution CEB 4/99. Over time, this level of training has been articulated always to the political-social and economic context of each historical moment, which includes current health policies2,3. Discussing the training of nursing assistants and technicians is relevant, considering that these professionals represent the largest contingent of workers responsible for health care. The student profile is not yet a primary concern within the school environment, especially in the area of nursing. There are few institutions that carry out studies that seek to understand their target audience. The objective of this research is to describe the profile of students on the technical nursing course at a federal educational The research showed that working three times a day, that is, eight hours of work a day, working at home and another four hours of studying at night, is not an easy task, but the employability and financial return make technical courses increasingly sought 1 after. However, the moment of completion of the technical nursing course is a moment of great expectations for trainees and their families, as it is close to entering the job market. To do this, it is necessary to understand the difficulties highlighted by students, as it can help teachers better understand the audience for which they target their classes and teachings.
