Abstract: Resistance to antimicrobials in hospital environments is reported as a public health problem and can be observed in different locations around the world. In Brazil, there are reports of hospital infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus associated with methicillin resistance, as well as new resistant strains such as Chryseobacterium indologenes and Brevundimonas brasiliensis sp. in intensive care units. Confirming the global emergency, outbreaks of E. faecium, S. aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been reported. Given this presented scenario, it is vital to understand the current extent of the problem to combat this threat, seeking to understand the trends observed in different regions, as well as the association of pathogens and medications that most contribute to resistance, aiming to combat and prevent future worsening.
