• Abstract:

  The patient’s perception about the health service used is a way to

  strengthen health planning and consequently the quality of the services provided. Thus,

  the objective of the present study was to know the perception about support and health

  support of patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and other hospital

  sectors. Quantitative, transversal, descriptive-exploratory and inferential study. A total

  of 410 adults hospitalized at a Brazilian University Hospital in the year 2018 were

  enrolled. Data were collected through a telephone interview, structured questionnaire

  and analyzed by Fisher’s exact non-parametric test. The results showed that individuals

  older than 60 years and a history of previous hospitalization had a higher propensity

  for ICU admission (p <0.05). Patients from both groups, positively evaluated all the

  questions related to the care and support provided by the hospital staff, with differences

  only in relation to the presence of doubts about the treatment performed in the hospital,

  significantly higher among those who received care in the ICU (p = 0 , 0023). It is

  concluded that the patterns of satisfaction with support and health care for patients who

  have been hospitalized in ICU or other hospital sectors is similar, evidencing the high

  quality of the health behaviors regarding the care and support provided by the health

  team in the investigated institution.
