Abstract: Ehrlichiosis is a disease caused by gram-negative bacteria belonging to the genus Ehrlichia sp., which has recently gained prominence due to it’s importance both in public and animal health, through it’s zoonotic potential. Therefore, the present work sought to evaluate the perception of dog tutors who were treated at the University Veterinary Hospital of the State University of Maranhão about canine ehrlichiosis, through the application of 52 questionnaires, together with the tutors, in order to characterize their socioeconomic profile and management of their dogs, estimating their level of knowledge in relation to the prevention of the vector of Ehrlichia canis, the tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus. With the results proving the lack of knowledge on the part of tutors about the disease, it’s importance and it’s zoonotic potential, it is proposed the elaboration and implementation of health education programs with the distribution of folders that contribute to their awareness, and to the methods of control and prevention of the tick. In addition, it is advised that new research be carried out in order to correlate the socioeconomic data of the tutors with the ideal management of the animals and the development of diseases.
