PERCEPÇÃO DOS PROFISSIONAIS DA SAÚDE ACERCA DA ORTOTANÁSIA
A morte e o processo do morrer são
tratados, ainda hoje, como uma temática delicada,
sendo considerada politicamente incorreta e
socialmente censurável. Esse aspecto também
repercute no contexto dos profissionais da
saúde. O presente estudo busca compreender
a percepção de profissionais da saúde sobre a
ortotanásia, a partir de entrevistas realizadas
em uma instituição hospitalar localizada no
interior de Minas Gerais e que oferece cuidado
especializado a pacientes oncológicos.
Participaram da pesquisa 42 profissionais
das seguintes áreas da saúde: Técnicos de
Enfermagem, Psicólogos, Assistente Social,
Médicos, Fisioterapeutas, Nutricionistas,
Terapeuta Ocupacional e Enfermeiros. Os
resultados foram analisados a partir da análise
de conteúdo, segundo Bardin. Verificou-se
que 67% dos profissionais desconhecem a
terminologia ortotanásia, 12% demostram um
conhecimento parcial sobre o termo, e 21%
a definiu de modo adequado. Ressalta-se,
ainda, que embora a terminologia seja pouco
conhecida, sua prática é considerada coerente
por 98% da amostra. Todavia, tal prática não
ocorre sem conflitos, os quais são relatados
em 85% das respostas. Entende-se que a
ortotanásia é considerada a forma mais digna
de finitude, e que tal percepção ocorre por parte
dos profissionais a partir de um contato muito
próximo com o sofrimento humano.

Abstract:
Death and the process of dying
are still treated today as a delicate issue, being
considered politically incorrect and socially
objectionable. This also has repercussions in
the context of health professionals. The present
study seeks to understand the perception of
health professionals about orthatanasia, based
on interviews conducted in a hospital located
in the interior of Minas Gerais and offering
specialized care to cancer patients. Participating
in the research were 42 professionals from the
following health areas: Nursing Technicians,
Psychologists, Social Workers, Physicians,
Physiotherapists, Nutritionists, Occupational
Therapists and Nurses. The results were
analyzed from content analysis, according to
Bardin. It was found that 67% of the professionals
do not know the orthatanasia terminology, 12%
show a partial knowledge about the term, and
21% have defined it adequately. It is also emphasized that although the terminology is
little known, its practice is considered adequate by 98% of the sample. However, such
practice does not occur without conflicts, which are reported in 85% of the responses.
It is understood that orthatanasia is considered the most worthy form of finitude, and
that such perception occurs on the part of professionals from a very close contact with
human suffering.
