PERCEPÇÃO DOS CUIDADORES DE IDOSOS PERANTE A ATUAÇÃO DO TERAPEUTA OCUPACIONAL
Analisar a percepção dos cuidadores formais e informais perante a atuação do terapeuta ocupacional na área da gerontologia, investigando a compreensão acerca da atuação e importância deste profissional na atenção ao idoso com alterações em seu desempenho ocupacional. Abordagem quali-quantitativa, os dados foram coletados por um questionário sociodemográfico e uma entrevista semiestruturada, e interpretados a partir da Análise de Conteúdo. Participaram 15 cuidadores de idosos, a maioria mulheres; média de idade de 43,6 anos; a maioria tinha Ensino Médio Completo; eram cuidadores informais; não tinham vínculo de parentesco; realizavam a função a mais de um ano; dividiam está e; referiram conhecer a Terapia Ocupacional. Observou-se que os cuidadores tem dificuldades para compreender o termo Terapia Ocupacional e que o terapeuta ocupacional é um profissional que apoia o cuidador emocionalmente, no manejo diário e com orientações técnicas sobre o cuidado. Observa-se que o terapeuta ocupacional atuante na área da gerontologia além da atenção em saúde prestada ao idoso, também pode contribuir para o cuidado da saúde do cuidador.

Abstract:
To analyze the perception of formal and informal caregivers before the performance of the occupational therapist in the gerontology area, investigating the understanding about the performance and importance of this professional in the attention to the elderly with alterations in their occupational performance. Quali-quantitative approach, the data were collected by a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview, and interpreted from the Content Analysis. 15 caregivers of elderly participated, most of them women; mean age was 43.6 years; most of them had completed high school; they were informal caregivers; they had no kinship; they performed the function for more than one year; they divided it and; they referred to know the Occupational Therapy. It was observed that the caregivers have difficulties to understand the term Occupational Therapy and that the occupational therapist is a professional who supports the caregiver emotionally, in the daily management and with technical guidance about the care. It was observed that the occupational therapist acting in the gerontology area, besides the health care given to the elderly, can also contribute to the caregiver's health care.
