Abstract: The present study aims to characterize the perception of academics of the Degree in Biological Sciences, Center for Higher Studies of Parintins (CESP), University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), about the importance of practical activities in the teaching of biology through the report of the understanding regarding the performance of the practices, the difficulties in the execution of these classes in graduation and the perception about the importance of the theme in the formation of new professors. The research subjects correspond to 52 academics that were in the 3rd and 5th period of the Degree in Biological Sciences (CESP/UEA) from 12/2022 to 03/2023, who were informed of the objectives and signed a TCLE. Through a quantitative and qualitative approach, a questionnaire with objective and subjective questions was applied. The analysis of the results made it possible to infer how the academics are positioned on the use, application or execution of practical classes in the teaching of biology and in their teacher training. It was evident that practices are indispensable tools for effective learning, being recognized for their facilitating and motivating role for students. The report confirms that both theory and practice are necessary for a better assimilation of contents and concepts within the biological sciences; that there is a deficiency in the use and application of practical classes in high school, affecting the quality of learning in graduation; and that there are difficulties such as lack of materials, teaching resources, equipment, laboratory structure and academic interest that affect the execution of classes in the training of future teachers. It is suggested that further studies on this topic should be carried out for a better understanding of the teaching-learning relationship with the use of practical activities in the biological sciences.
