Abstract: This article addresses the issue of solid waste collection in the riverside community of Guajará da Costa, located on Trambioca Island, in the municipality of Barcarena, Pará, Brazil. The study aimed to analyze the environmental and social impacts caused by improper waste disposal and to propose sustainable alternatives adapted to the local reality. The research demonstrated that the absence of regular waste collection services and adequate infrastructure contributes to soil and water pollution, the spread of diseases, and environmental degradation, directly affecting the quality of life of the riverside population. The methodology included field visits, the application of questionnaires to 20 families in the community, analysis of the collected data, and environmental education activities. The results showed that most of the waste generated consists of plastic and paper, with burning and improper disposal in backyards and along riverbanks being common practices. A low level of knowledge regarding selective waste collection and composting was also identified, although most residents expressed interest in adopting sustainable practices if supported by public authorities. It is concluded that environmental awareness, combined with the implementation of selective waste collection systems, ecopoints, and community partnerships, can significantly contribute to reducing environmental impacts and improving the community's quality of life, while strengthening sustainable practices in Amazonian riverside communities.
