PENSAMENTO LATINO-AMERICANO: A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DE JOSUÉ DE CASTRO E SEUS ESTUDOS SOBRE OS PROBLEMAS DA FOME NA AMÉRICA LATINA
O artigo analisa a contribuição do médico e sociólogo brasileiro Josué de Castro (1908-1973) na busca de soluções para os principais problemas decorrentes da pobreza, exclusão e desigualdades sociais que marcavam a realidade brasileira e da maioria dos países da América Latina e seu legado para o pensamento sociológico latino-americano a partir de seus trabalhos sobre a fome, o desenvolvimento, as contradições do modelo capitalista, os condicionantes históricos do problema e a vertente social, política e cultural da questão. O arcabouço teórico de seus estudos foi a base para o surgimento de uma Sociologia da Fome. O artigo se detém em uma releitura crítica das obras marcos do autor: Geografia da Fome, Geopolítica da Fome, Sete Palmos de Terra e um Caixão e o Livro Negro da Fome.

Abstract:
This paper analyzes the contribution of Brazilian physician and sociologist Josué de Castro (1908-1973) in the search for solutions to the main problems arising from poverty, exclusion and social inequalities that marked the reality of Brazil, as of the majority of Latin American countries. It also looks for his legacy to Latin American sociological thinking, as from his work on hunger, its historical determinants, its relations to development and the contradictions of the capitalist economic model, as well as other social, political and cultural aspects. Josué de Castro was considered the Sociologist of Hunger, a pioneer of this new field, for whose emergence a theoretical framework of his studies was used as its very foundation. Based on an analysis of the present times and of the challenges that social inequalities still imply to several Latin American countries, especially Brazil, this paper presents a critical re-reading of this Castro's landmark works: Geography of Hunger, Geopolitics of Hunger, Seven Sides of Earth and a Coffin, and the Black Book of Hunger
