  • Abstract:

n this research, we investigated the occurrence of Cryptosporidium spp. in faecal samples of pigeons from two breeding by the modified Kinyoun Coloring Technique. A total of 100 samples were collected, 50 of which were collected at breeding in the city of Formiga, State of Minas Gerais and 50 in another laboratory located in Araçatuba, São Paulo. For the detection of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts, the faeces were purified and concentrated by centrifugal-flotation in Sheather’s solution and subsequently evaluated under microscopy by the Modified Kinyoun Coloring Technique and 6 samples positive for Cryptosporidium spp. .The database was built with Microsoft Office Excel 2010 and these were analyzed using Fisher’sExactTest.6%positivesampleswere detected for Cryptosporidium spp. According to the inferential analysis, there wasn’t a significant association between the positivity by the modified Kinyoun staining technique and the studied variables age, sex, and location. By the results obtained in this study, it can be inferred that the modified Kinyoun Coloring Technique permits the detection of oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. in faecal samples of pigeons.
