PARA ALÉM DOS MUROS ESCOLARES: MISSÃO PROTESTANTE: EXTENSÃO AGRÍCOLA E O IMAGINÀRIO DA EAL (1908-1936)
Este trabalho discute as atividades de extensão da Escola Agrícola de Lavras (EAL) no período entre 1908, quando foi fundada, a 1936, quando nela consolidou-se o ensino superior de Agronomia. Os objetivos deste estudo são: (a) compreender as estratégias de penetração na sociedade por parte da instituição pesquisada, pretendendo a sua aceitação como propulsora do progresso; (b) interpretar as motivações e providências para a efetivação do projeto; (c) analisar a relação entre a origem norte-americana dos empreendedores e os aspectos daquele contexto que os levaram a acreditar na importância de tais ações para a realização dos seus ideais; e (d) verificar como teorias e políticas referentes à modernização da agricultura no Brasil influenciaram as atividades de extensão empreendidas pela EAL. Foram utilizadas fontes do Arquivo Público Mineiro, do Museu Bi-Moreira da Universidade Federal de Lavras e do Pró-memória Gammon, do Instituto Presbiteriano Gammon, em Lavras (MG).

Abstract:
This work debates about the extension activities of the Escola Agrícola de Lavras (EAL) in the period of time between 1908, when it was founded, to 1936, when the higher education in agronomy was consolidated on the college. The objectives of this study are: (a) the strategies of the researched instituition on penetrating the society, as propellent of the progress; (b) to interpret the motivations and providences taken for the actualization of the project; (c) to analyze the relationship between the entrepreneurs north-american origin and the aspects of that context that led them to believe on the value of such actions to the achievement of their ideals; and (d) to verify how theoriesand policies referring to the modernization of the agriculture in Brazil influenced the extension activities undertaken by EAL.
