Abstract: Coxiella burnetii is the etiological agent of the disease known as Q Fever, a zoonosis with worldwide distribution that can present itself in acute and chronic forms. In Brazil, there are few reports of the disease and reporting of cases is not considered mandatory. Because the disease does not present specific clinical signs, this makes it difficult to diagnose and establish specific protocols for doctors regarding treatments and procedures to be taken. The disease is underdiagnosed in Brazil, therefore, it is necessary to conduct research with the aim of identifying and reporting the human population diagnosed with the disease, which, as it is a serious zoonosis, is of great importance for public health. As Brazil is the second largest milk producer in the world, and ruminants are the main reservoirs of the disease, the country is one of the main targets for studies on Coxiella burnetii infection.
