Abstract: Human suffering poses a great challenge to biblical authors. In the Old Testament, it was the wisdom movement that, in a privileged way, paid attention to this question. In the New Testament, the followers of Christ tried to theologically face the problem of the cross and martyrdom. In the current era, with the new corona virus, the challenge of practicing spiritual guidance is to help people find a meaning to live and to continue believing, even when life seems to have no meaning and doubt overrides faith. The purpose of this essay is to offer some clues to help those who practice spiritual guidance to be ministers of mercy in favor of the crucified of this world, helping them to regain hope and remain faithful even in situations of great suffering. The methodology consists of starting from biblical data and practical theology, making a dialogue with some texts by Viktor Frank about caring for people in inevitable suffering. The main conclusions show the requirement that practical theology really engage in a truly Christian praxis based on a Church in solidarity with the sufferer.
