Abstract: Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic, triggered by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was declared a pandemic by the WHO in March 2020, exposing deep weaknesses in the global health system and exacerbating existing economic crises. In Brazil, the initial response was fragmented due to a lack of central coordination and aggravated by controversial labor and social security reforms. Method: Bibliographic review based on the collection of scientific databases. Results: The accelerated spread of the virus has revealed persistent inequalities in Brazil, exacerbated by the lack of a unified national strategy. The vulnerability of workers, especially informal and outsourced workers, has been exposed by the lack of adequate social and labor protections, highlighting the urgent need for policies that promote equity and social justice. Discussion: In Brazil, policies to contain spending and deregulate the labor market have exposed workers to more severe economic and health impacts. The lack of investment in public health and the fragility of social security networks have aggravated the collapse and widened social inequalities. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the precariousness of the labor market in Brazil, highlighting structural flaws in social protection and labor rights. It is necessary to review labor and social security reforms, combined with a renewed commitment to the health and well-being of workers, and it is essential to build a more resilient and fair future of work in the country.
