PADRE RAPHAEL MARIA GALANTI: ABORDAGEM CÍVICA E JESUÍTICA DA HISTÓRIA DO BRASIL PARA CRIANÇAS
Investigar a abordagem cívica e
jesuítica do livro “Breve História do Brasil”,
publicado em 1913, voltado para crianças do curso
primário, tomando por caminho historiográfico a
trajetória docente e as viagens pastorais de seu
autor, o jesuíta italiano Padre Raphael Maria
Galanti, é o objetivo deste artigo. Na República
recém-proclamada buscava-se moldar as
crianças de acordo com o civismo e patriotismo,
a partir do projeto cívico-pedagógico de criar o
“brasileiro”. Padre Galanti, que foi docente em
vários colégios jesuítas pelo Brasil e fez visitas
pastorais a diferentes regiões brasileiras, com
sua experiência docente e trajetórias vividas
por ele, e também a partir de suas leituras e
suas influências socioculturais, de grande rede
de sociabilidade e conhecimento do Brasil,
dedicou-se durante muitos anos à escrita de
livros didáticos, dentre eles, o objeto e fonte
desta investigação. Dialogo nesta pesquisa,
dentre outros autores, com Roger Chartier
(1996), Robert Darnton (1990) e Sirinelli (2003)
sobre o processo pelo qual os diferentes atores
envolvidos com a publicação dão sentidos aos
textos que produzem, sobre a história do livro
e das práticas de leitura. O estudo pretende
minimizar lacuna sobre os livros didáticos para
crianças do ensino primário – consagrados a
inculcar um ideal do homem brasileiro, que tem
se configurado como tema de relevância no
campo historiográfico da Educação. Uso, por
corpus documental privilegiado os acervos do
Colégio Anchieta e do Real Gabinete Português
de Leitura, no Rio de Janeiro.

Abstract:
Investigate the civic and Jesuit
approach of the book “brief history of Brazil”,
published in 1913, back to primary school
children, on the way to teaching and the
historiography trajectory pastoral trips of your
author, the Italian Jesuit Father Raphael Maria
Galanti is purpose of this article. The newly
proclaimed Republic sought shaping children
according to the civics and patriotism, from
the civic-pedagogical project of creating the
“brazilian”. Father Galanti, who was a teacher
in various Jesuit colleges by Brazil and made
pastoral visits to different Brazilian regions, with
your teaching experience and trajectories lived
by him, whether personal, his readings and sociocultural
influences, a great network of sociability
and knowledge of Brazil, dedicated himself for
many years to the writing of textbooks, among
them, the object and source of this investigation.
I approach this research, among others, with Roger Chartier (1996), Robert Darnton
(1990) and Sirinelli (2003) on the process by which the different actors involved in the
publication give meaning to the texts they produce, book and reading practices. The
study intends to minimize a gap in textbooks for primary school children - dedicated
to inculcating an ideal of the Brazilian man, which has been configured as a topic of
relevance in the historiographic field of Education. Use, for documentary privileged
corpus the collections of the Anchieta College and the Royal Portuguese Reading
Office, in Rio de Janeiro.
