Abstract: Total Colectomy, a vital surgical procedure for conditions like diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, and colon cancer, offers multiple surgical approaches, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques (TESSLER et al., 2021). Our analysis of 14 years of Total Colectomy procedures in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, revealed 272 hospitalizations with total costs of R$1,267,051.53. Mortality rates varied, peaking at 9% in 2015 and lowest at 2% in 2014 and 2016. Discrepancies between public and private sectors, along with unreported cases, pose challenges to policy improvement. Improving data collection and collaboration are essential to enhance clinical practice and patient safety in Total Colectomy.
