Abstract: This article examines the persistent tension between the analytical categories of individual and society within the field of sociology. Through a critical-historical review of classical and contemporary paradigms, it discusses the recurrence of dichotomous approaches and the emergence of theoretical alternatives based on relationality. As a heuristic figure, the metaphor of the ouroboros—developed within the context of this analysis—is proposed to represent the constitutive circularity of sociology, in which individual and society are mutually implicated, revealing the limitations of unilateral perspectives. The analysis argues that overcoming the individual-society dichotomy requires a theoretical perspective that integrates action and structure within a truly relational framework. Finally, the article highlights the epistemological shifts that have enabled the revaluation of the individual as a legitimate analytical unit without falling into methodological reductionism. In this direction, it unveils current approaches referred to as sociologies of the individual, which are attentive to structure, the plurality of experiences, and the complexity of subjectivities that shape contemporary social life.
