OS SMARTPHONES COMO EXTENSÕES DA MENTE: HIBRIDAÇÃO, ACOPLAMENTO E COGNIÇÃO
Este artigo tem o objetivo de
apresentar reflexões teóricas que buscam
expor a interface, não tão evidente, entre
a comunicação, o uso de tecnologias e a
cognição humana. Defendemos, por exemplo,
que o uso dos smartphones e seus impactos
na forma como seres humanos compreendem
a realidade deve ser compreendido a partir da
perspectiva da extensão da mente e cognição
estendidas. As orientações e pressupostos
teóricos seguem as teses fortes da embodied
cognition (Shapiro, 2014) que defendem a
ideia de que o corpo humano é um híbrido
biológico/tecnológico, sujeito a acoplamentos
e, por isso, naturalmente ciborgue. Sendo
uma simbiose homem máquina, a cognição
é, então, compreendida como processo que
não se encerra no corpo estendendo-se para
o mundo, sendo as tecnologia constitutivas
e não mediadoras da capacidade humana de
conhecer. O uso acoplado de tecnologias e seus
efeitos na cognição humana são exemplificados,
ao final do texto, a partir da discussão sobre a
inserção dos smartphones em nosso cotidiano
e a emergência de um novo conceito: a webextended mind.

Abstract:
This article aims to present
theoretical reflections that seek to expose the
interface, not so evident, between communication,
the use of technologies and human cognition.
We argue, for example: the use of smartphones
and their impacts on how humans understand
reality should be understood from perspective
of extended mind and extended cognition. The
theoretical orientations follow the strong theses
of the embodied cognition (Shapiro, 2014)
these defend the idea that the human body
is a biological/ technological hybrid, subject
to couplings so, therefore, naturally cyborg.
Being a machine-man symbiosis, cognition
is understood as a process that doesn’t end
in the body, therefore extending to the world.
Technology is constitutive, so its not mediating
the human capacity to know. The coupled use
of technologies and their effects on human
cognition are exemplified, in the end of the text,
by discussion about the insertion of smartphones
into our daily lives and the emergence of a new
concept: web-extended mind.
