Abstract: This article aims to present research carried out at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFSul), which aims to analyze the documentation produced and archived at the institution in the first decades of its operation. The theoretical-methodological proposal is allocated from a qualitative perspective, with a historical and technical approach affiliated with documentary analysis. The established periodization covers the first half of the 20th century, considering the amount of material allocated to the institution. The work has so far established the cleaning and cataloging of the material for the subsequent analysis phase. The research is relevant in the context of preserving institutional memory and promoting research in the field of Education and History.
