Abstract: The challenges of nanotechnology in medicines have raised great debates among scientific scholars about methods that qualify nanopharmaceuticals as medicines for safe use. The increase in the use of nanotechnology in the therapeutic area has revolutionized the pharmaceutical industry, enabling the development of controlled-release drugs and improving the applicability of conventional active ingredients through modifications in their structure and the use of nanocarriers, that is, particles that vary in size from 1 to 100 nanometers. This scientific work consists of a literature review that selected articles focused on the theme of this study. Those who did not contribute significantly in detail to the discussion proposed here were excluded. In the present study, it was possible to observe that multiple issues related to the challenges currently faced in the commercialization of nanopharmaceuticals contribute to overcoming obstacles. For this success, the following are necessary: current regulations; demands from industries for large-scale reproducibility; use of toxicological assessment methods; accreditation of qualified service providers; research infrastructure; production of nanomaterials. Studies on problems and resolutions related to the topic guarantee the expansion of the term nanotechnology, raise the level of production of industries with standards and regulations, offer personalized treatment for people with neglected diseases, in addition to redesigning concepts regarding conventional therapies.
