• Abstract:

  The programmatic contents of

  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery defined to set

  up the dental curriculum, may be inconsistent

  with the egress profile suggested by National

  Curricular Guidelines (NCG) and professional

  practice. The aim of this study is to analyze the

  insertion and distribution in the whole curriculum

  of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery contents in the

  general dentist’s education. Information data

  was performed in three steps: identification

  and analysis, in the 2004, 2007, 2010 and

  2013 ENADE tests, of the questions related to

  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; application of

  a questionnaire to general dentists; correlation

  of the answers acquired in the questionnaire

  and questions identified in the ENADE tests.

  The results showed that Oral and Maxillofacial

  contents are, in percentage terms, few

  questioned in the ENADE tests and disregard

  the technical specific procedures related to that.

  Besides the fact that extraction is the most common procedure performed by general

  dentists, the technical procedures related to this content were never addressed in the

  four ENADE tests editions. Further studies that, by enlarging the sample, enabling a

  deeper comprehension of the results presented here are suggested.
