Abstract: The proposed article aims to analyze the "Historia Brittonum," attributed to the monk Nennius, as a crucial source for understanding Anglo-Saxon England. Despite the scarcity of written records during the early post-Roman centuries, Nennius's work offers valuable insights into this period. The monk compiled information from various sources, including oral traditions and earlier writings, to narrate the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons, the subsequent conflicts, and even the legend of King Arthur. The analysis contextualizes Nennius as a product of his time and geographical location, highlighting his negative view of the Saxon invaders and his influence from biblical knowledge. By exploring the author's intentions and the presence of mythological elements in his work, the article provides a deeper understanding of the "History of the Britons" and its role in Anglo-Saxon historiography.
