Abstract: The cultivation of cotton in the Comarca Lagunera dates from the year 1851 because its soil and climatic conditions and water runoff from the Western Sierra Madre have allowed its permanence; however, in recent years -2005 to 2021- the planted area decreased 37.3% and production has been concentrated in five municipalities of which San Pedro de las Colonias and Francisco I. Madero concentrate 82%; Faced with this situation, this study aims to show how the production of this crop is organized and show the profitability shown by it, which fluctuates from year to year depending on the behavior of international fiber prices, assuming that despite Despite the ups and downs of the cotton market, there is a cotton vocation and infrastructure conditions that allow the operation of this productive system. To carry out the study, simple random sampling was used with a confidence level of 95% to determine the number of producers to whom a survey was applied that included organizational aspects of cotton management, applied from July 2021 to February 2022 in the municipalities of San Pedro de las Colonias and Francisco I. Madero Coahuila. The results show that the operation of the crop is based on the permanence of ginning plants that function as dispersers of credit to ejidatarios and small producers, with the staff of the plant providing the credit, providing machinery to operate the crop, harvest and pack. the buckwheat in fiber and in the end it makes the liquidation of the credit to the producer, concluding that the profitability of the crop is good only when the international prices of the fiber are high in the international market; otherwise there is an imminent risk of financial loss and demotivation to continue producing cotton.
