Abstract: The educational situation of young children living in a rural area in the municipality of Palmas, capital of the State of Tocantins, who are old enough to attend early childhood education, presents a challenge to the municipal education policy. In this article, we seek to understand how the supply and demand for early childhood education and daycare for young children and babies living in the rural area of the municipality of Palmas occurs. This is an exploratory research, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, with data collection through bibliographic and documentary research, using information from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, School Census, Municipal Department of Education, as well as to the authors of the theoretical framework who dialogue with the theme in their studies. The results of the study indicate that this training process is unequal and insufficient when compared to the access that children of the same age group living in urban areas have to this stage of basic education. The article sheds light on the provision of early childhood education with an emphasis on the rural context, taking the community of Buritirana in the municipality of Palmas Tocantins as the unit of analysis.
