Abstract: We dedicate this work to understanding spaces occupied by girls and boys at school in formal and informal moments (formal Physical Education classes and informal, vacant classes). The locus of the study was a state high school, in the municipality of Aparecida- SP. We then established, as study questions: identifying the participation of girls in formal class moments and consequently identifying what girls do in informal moments. The school visited refers to a state institution, as mentioned above, with an audience of students mainly aged between 15 and 18 years old. We were based on a qualitative nature, the research had an emphasis on bibliographical analysis and descriptive ethnographic field research, respecting the limits of space and time of the research. With this, it was possible to identify the participation of students in the various bodily practices in the school environment, the inequality of participation in activities, which was summarized as futsal for boys and volleyball for some girls, thus reaffirming stereotypes between genders. This inequality may be based on generalist conceptions of the body, in which girls are considered to have less ability when compared to boys for physical sports practices. Teachers need to be aware of these divergences and establish strategies and alternatives to break paradigms and stereotypes. Who know how to manage the various conflicts and challenges involving discrimination between genders, towards a more harmonious relationship and respecting differences. This work aimed to contribute in this direction. To reflect on this scenario, the school becomes the essential space in the lives of everyone who passes through it, thereby making a more just, supportive and humane society.
