Abstract: Objective: To analyze the application of cannabidiol (CBD) in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), exploring its concepts, modes of use, and therapeutic challenges. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive, and bibliographic study based on content analysis. The search was conducted in SciELO, CAPES Theses Database, and Google Scholar using descriptors related to CBD and ASD. Materials were organized into three thematic categories: conceptions of CBD and ASD, usage circumstances, and therapeutic challenges. Results: ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in communication, social interaction, and repetitive behaviors. CBD, due to its anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties without psychoactive effects, shows potential in reducing symptoms such as hyperactivity, aggressiveness, and sleep disturbances. Studies report clinical improvements in individuals with ASD following CBD use; however, gaps remain regarding long-term safety and potential adverse effects. Major barriers include legal restrictions on cannabis cultivation in Brazil and a lack of controlled clinical trials. Conclusion: CBD emerges as a promising complementary therapy for ASD, offering significant clinical benefits. Nevertheless, further robust scientific studies and regulatory frameworks are required to ensure its broad and safe use.
