Abstract: Historical records indicate that the use of plants for therapeutic purposes dates back to the beginnings of human civilization, covering practices ranging from disease prevention to treatment and cure of various conditions. This article consists of a literature review, which aims to discuss the therapeutic activities of aroeira applied to the treatment of acne-prone skin. This research is also justified by the large world population affected by acne. The literature review was conducted by selecting relevant articles available in the Google Scholar, SciELO and LILACS databases, all focused on the topic in question. The descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) were used: “Acne Vulgaris”, “Anacardiaceae”, “Inflammation”, “Popular Medicine” and “Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi”. Based on traditional knowledge about the use of plants in Brazil for therapeutic purposes, it is concluded that the species Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi has potential relevance in the treatment of acne due to its therapeutic properties. However, its effects need to be subjected to additional studies to validate its efficacy and safety.
