O uso da Curcuma longa para o tratamento da endometriose: uma revisão literária

• Abstract: The female reproductive organs are part of a complex system that undergoes cyclical changes throughout the days due to hormonal fluctuations present in the menstrual cycle. Several pathologies affecting women of reproductive age are directly related to their reproductive systems, among which endometriosis can be highlighted, a hormone-dependent disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Its treatment methodologies are already well established, being pharmacological or surgical, however, they are not curative and present various adverse effects. The search for therapeutic potential of plants is one of the oldest practices in medicine. Among the plants that stand out in phytotherapy, it is possible to highlight Curcuma longa, an angiosperm that possesses various components with therapeutic properties. Thus, the present study conducted a literature review on the use of Curcuma longa and its components against endometriosis. For this, online databases PubMed, SciElo, Sciencedirect, Scientific Electronic Library Online, and Scopus were used, selecting articles published between 2014 – 2024 in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. In this way, it was possible to identify that Curcuma longa has action against therapeutic targets present in endometriosis dated in in vitro and in vivo models with animals. However, the lack of clinical evidence hinders the conclusion about its potential against endometriosis, urging the elaboration of more detailed clinical studies.
