O USO DA ACUPUNTURA NO TRATAMENTO DA DISFUNÇÃO TEMPOROMANDIBULAR: UMA REVISÃO DA LITERATURA
A Disfunção Temporomandibular
(DTM) é caracterizada por sinais e sintomas
que envolvem os músculos mastigatórios, a
articulação temporomandibular e estruturas
associadas. A DTM possui etiologia complexa e
multifatorial, dessa forma, é fundamental realizar
um correto diagnóstico a fim de determinar um
plano de tratamento adequado. Tratamentos
não invasivos são os mais recomendados,
dentre os quais a acupuntura tem ganho
bastante destaque. A acupuntura proporciona
um alívio da dor e reestabelece o equilíbrio
corporal, com enfoque no conforto e bemestar
do paciente. Os resultados encontrados
demonstram que a acupuntura é uma técnica
simples, de fácil execução e bem aceita pelos
pacientes. Pode ser indicada em casos de DTM
aguda ou crônica, articular ou muscular, sem
apresentação de efeitos colaterais. Os pacientes
apresentaram bons resultados após tratamento
com acupuntura, principalmente com relação à
dor, sendo vista como uma técnica eficaz em
pacientes com DTM.

Abstract:
The temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is characterized by
signs and symptoms involving the masticatory muscles, the temporomandibular joint,
and associated structures. TMD has a complex and multifactorial etiology, so it is
essential to make a correct diagnosis in order to determine an appropriate treatment
plan. Non-invasive treatments are the most recommended, of which acupuncture has
been gaining prominence. The acupuncture provides pain relief and re-establishes the
body balance focusing on the comfort and well-being of the patient. The results found
show that acupuncture is a simple technique, easy to perform, and well accepted by
patients. It may be indicated in cases of acute or chronic TMD, in the joint or muscle,
without presenting side effects. The patients presented good results after acupuncture
treatment, especially regard to pain, and it is seen as an effective technique in patients
with TMD.
