O TOPÔNIMO PIRES DO RIO: a construção da via férrea e o surgimento de uma cidade
O estudo em questão tem por
objetivo discutir a partir do topônimo Pires do
Rio, a histórico do processo de construção
da Estrada de Ferro Goyaz e a fundação da
cidade de Pires do Rio. As informações aqui
revisitadas integram obras de estudiosos
que se detiveram, por alguma razão, no
esclarecimento de controvérsia acerca,
principalmente, do verdadeiro fundador do
município e de fatos que antecederam a
inauguração da estação férrea no ano de 1922.
O método de investigação desta pesquisa
é histórico documental bibliográfico, onde
revisitamos documentos de posse da prefeitura
e do museu ferroviário e literaturas (livros e
dissertações) que abordam sobre a temática.
No processo de efetivação da pesquisa interrelacionar as áreas da Linguística e História, se
faz de extrema relevância, pois a língua reflete
o ambiente em que o falante está inserido e com
isso nos traz os processos culturais e históricos
desse mesmo indivíduo, bem como o de seu
meio. Assim, em nossa pesquisa não tem como
dissociar essas duas áreas. Ao fim, podemos
mencionar da importância da via férrea para
a fundação da cidade de Pires do Rio e seu
posterior desenvolvimento socioeconômico em
âmbito nacional.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to
discuss the history of the construction of the
Goyaz Railroad and the foundation of the city
of Pires do Rio. The information reviewed here
includes works by scholars who stopped by
some reason, in the clarification of controversy,
mainly about the true founder of the municipality
and facts that preceded the inauguration of the
railway station in the year 1922. The method
of investigation of this research is historical
documentary bibliográfico, where we revise
documents of possession of the city hall and of
the railway museum and literatures (books and
dissertations) that deal with the theme. In the
process of making the research interrelate the
areas of Linguistics and History, it is extremely
relevant, because the language reflects the
environment in which the speaker is inserted
and with this brings us the cultural and historical
processes of that same individual, as well as the
one of its surroundings. Thus, our research has
no way to dissociate these two areas. At the end,
we can mention the importance of the railroad to
the foundation of the city of Pires do Rio and
its subsequent socioeconomic development at
national level.
