Abstract: The Theatro da Paz (Belém-PA, Brazil) is a historic building that follows the neoclassical architectural lines, from the golden age of rubber in the Amazon Basin. It is considered the most important house of culture in the North of Brazil. Therefore, this study aimed to trace a historical context of the Theatro da Paz, from its foundation to the present, more precisely, analyzing songs and shows performed in this theater between the years 1878 to 1918. Therefore, the methodology applied in this research it has a qualitative approach, making use of bibliographic review and field research in the collections of the Museum of the Federal University of Pará (MUFPA, Belém-PA, Brazil). It is clear that the theater actively participated in the history of Pará, presenting international lyrical companies, at the height of the rubber cycle; as well as small companies with local artists in their cast, reflecting the crisis moment of this cycle. It is concluded that the remarkable history and characteristics of the Theatro da Paz resulted from a deep process of architectural renovation and even today it remains a reference in the Amazon region.
